Welcome to Frank Gerry’s sailing blog

Hello and welcome to my web log for sailing Buzzards Bay, the coast of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

My name’s Frank Gerry and I’m the proud skipper of Galatea, a 28 foot Cal sloop. Her home port is Mattapoisett, Massachusetts.

A little about myself. I’ve been sailing my entire life. So far back in fact, my father used to use my brothers and I as ballast on sailing dinghies before we were old enough to walk. Though I’ve been messing about in boats all my life, I’ve been skippering sailboats for the past 18 years.

My current sail boat, Galatea, I bought from my good friend Mike in 1999. So, this makes 10 years of constant maintenance. She’s a 1986 Cal sailboat manufactured nearby in Fall River. Hull # 32 and she’s still a beauty. Did I mention the constant maintenance :-)

I thought I’d write about my experiences sailing the waters of New England. I’d like to write about things that other sailors in the area might find useful; such as navigation tips, descriptions of harbors and anchorages to spend the night, new things I’ve discovered and would like to pass along, observations of the sea, and just messing about in boats. Though, I also plan on writing things that are of interest to our friends and family. Keep people informed about our adventures on Galatea.
