Pictures of Buzzards Bay

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

Today is Sunday, September 28th, the third day we’ve had of heavy rain. Another weekend washout. A couple of weeks ago we had Tropical Storm Hanna. So, September has turned out to be another rainy month. I thought I’d post a few pictures of Buzzards Bay from my sail last weekend down to the Weepeckets.

The picture above I believed was one of the schooners out of Vineyard Haven. If I had to guess I’d say it was Alabama. The ship wasn’t flying any of it’s top sails which is how you’d distinguish the two tall ships from Marthas Vineyard. Shenandoah is a square top sail; schooner. The land in the background is South Dartmouth. (more…)

Galatea in Mattapoisett

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

Like a proud parent of a gifted child, I couldn’t help myself from posting this picture of Galatea at her mooring in Mattapoisett Harbor. Actually, it was a nice picture worthy of posting. (more…)

Water Art

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

When I’m on the water I look for all sorts of things to photograph. Actually, I try to capture everything, whether it’s boats, birds, waves, beaches, whatever. I enjoy pictures of the sea. I think I’ll start posting more of my pictures that I think people may like. The picture above and the next couple are what I call water art, reflections on calm water of various objects. These three are of sailboat masts. (more…)

Around the Weepecket Islands

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

Last weekend I went sailing on Buzzards Bay by myself. I just went for a sail with no particular destination. When I reached the middle of the bay I thought I’d sail over to the entrance to Woods Hole. Three quarters of the way across the Bay it occured to me that I’ve never explored the Weepecket Islands. So, I set my course and decided to circumnavigate the small island group. The picture above was on my original approach.

The 2008 sailing season is winding down. We have only a few more weeks left. Yesterday, Janet and I were talking about the season while we went out for a short sail. (more…)

Warning for boaters regarding battery connections

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

This blog entry is a little different than most of what I post. I wanted to put the word out to any boaters who haven’t been informed of the latest safety warnings from the ABYC to replace  the wing nuts on your battery terminals with hex nuts.

I was one of those people who didn’t know about this recomendation. I was lucky that a fire wasn’t started on my boat, all that happened to me was I couldn’t get my diesel engine started. (more…)

Daysailing with friends

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

I’m catching up today with my blog entries. It’s been a few weeks since we met our friends Scott and Elaine and took them out for a day sail on the Bay.  They were here on vacation for a couple of weeks (from San Francisco). Luckily, we had fantastic weather for our sail. (more…)
